Lain was engaged in collaboration with Hot Black and Amicus to design and deliver a custom outdoor commercial furniture collection for Hydro Tasmania’s new workplace at 530 Collins Street, Melbourne — one of the CBD’s most prominent commercial office addresses.
The outdoor workplace furniture was custom engineered to meet concealed bolt-down requirements on a high-rise balcony, ensuring both structural safety and integrity at height — a specialised requirement that demanded close coordination between Lain’s manufacturing team and the project’s structural and design consultants. Careful consideration was given to selecting commercial outdoor furniture finishes that offered long-term durability and sustainability in an exposed external environment, directly aligning with Hydro Tasmania’s environmental commitments and sustainability goals.
Through close collaboration with the Hot Black design team, Lain ensured all outdoor furniture finishes were seamlessly matched to the broader interior palette, creating a cohesive transition between indoor and outdoor workplace environments. The custom outdoor office furniture complements Hydro Tasmania’s Activity-Based Working strategy — providing flexible, high-performance outdoor workspace solutions that support modern ways of working while withstanding Melbourne’s variable weather conditions. From early design consultation and product development through to final delivery and installation, Lain supported the client with a considered, durable, and design-led outdoor furniture solution built to last.
